In a statement, Catapang said: “We are in an age when misinformation spreads like wildfire. It is crucial for the public to remain vigilant and discerning.”
His statement was issued in response to a social media post that he will be replaced. The post carried the logo of a newspaper, he said.
Catapang advised the public to be critical of any social media posts and only seek out reliable sources of news.
At the same time, he assured that the BuCor will continue to fight fake news to protect the reputation and integrity of the bureau and other public institutions.
He added that the BuCor will continue to do its work under its mandate and “our focus remains on our goals and the positive impact we strive to make.”
