The outcome of President Marcos' review of the report of the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) may be out this month, Malacañang said.
While Palace Press Officer and Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro did not disclose where Marcos is now in his review of the over 1,000-page ICI report, she bared that the result would be available this month.
She, however, clarified that it may not serve as a signal that the President has reached a decision over the fate of the investigating body.
"Malamang po itong buwan po ng Pebrero ay malalaman na po natin, sa ating pagkakaalam (Most likely, we will know within the month of February, based on our understanding)," Castro said in a Palace briefing on Friday, Feb. 20.
"Pero hindi ko po sinasabi na ito na mismo po ang magiging hudyat kung ano ang magiging desisyon ng Pangulo, sa akin lamang pong pagkakaalam, most probably by February ay mayroon na po (However, I am not saying that this will already serve as the signal for what the President’s decision will be. From what I know, most probably by February, there will already be something)," Castro added.
Although the report is now being reviewed by the President, Castro said it does not hinder the operations of the ICI, which now only has one remaining commissioner.
"[K]aya nga po sila ay nag-submit na ng kanilang report, at kung ano po ang magiging desisyon po ng Pangulo rito, kung dapat pa po bang ituloy o hindi, dapat po silang magpatuloy sa kanilang pagtatrabaho (They have already submitted their report, and whatever the President’s decision will be on this, whether it should proceed or not, they should continue with their work)," Castro said.
"Hintayin na lamang po natin ang magiging anunsiyo ng Pangulo. Pero sa ngayon po, wala pong pagpipigil, patuloy pa rin po ang pagtatrabaho ng ICI (Let us just wait for the President’s announcement. For now, there is no halt; the ICI continues its work)," she added.
According to the Palace official, the report was almost a thousand pages long.
She stressed the need for it to be carefully studied, "because this is not something like a novel that you can just read and immediately react to."
"So, kailangan pong araling mabuti para po maging rasonable at tama ang magiging desisyon po ng Pangulo (It must be thoroughly examined so that the President’s decision will be reasonable and correct)," Castro stated.
The Palace official also disclosed that there has been no meeting between the President and the ICI, despite the latter awaiting the President’s guidance on their next steps.
Through Executive Order (EO) No. 94, Marcos created the ICI which serves as a powerful fact-finding body tasked to investigate corruption and irregularities in flood control and other public works projects.
