CEBU CITY – The 21-year-old man in hot water for performing motorcycle stunts on a highway in an upland barangay here was remorseful when he surfaced on Wednesday, Feb. 18.
Kylle Econas, a resident of Barangay Poblacion, Consolacion town, Cebu, admitted that what he did on Transcentral Highway in Barangay Cantipla last Sunday, Feb. 15, was wrong.
"I hope they can still forgive me. I will not do it again," said Escona.
Escona appeared before the Land Transportation Office-Central Visayas and was asked to explain why he should not be penalized for performing a Superman stunt on a motorcycle. He was also seen sitting on the moving motorcycle with his legs crossed and holding the bar with just one hand.
Videos and photos of the stunt went viral online.
The LTO-7 has suspended his driver's license for 90 days.
The agency added that he is also facing charges for reckless driving under Republic Act 4136, otherwise known as the Land Transportation and Traffic Code.
Econas sought forgiveness and admitted that he was able to acquire a license through a fixer.
He said he spent P12,000 from the time he acquired a student permit until he was granted a driver's license without undergoing a seminar or driving course.
While Econas was apologetic and admitted his violation, the Highway Patrol Group-Central Visayas (HPG-7) is determined to file charges against him.
Police Lt. Col. Wildemar Tiu, chief of HPG-7, said Econas did not only endanger himself but also other motorists.
Econas collided with another motorcycle during the stunt.
Luckily, the collision did not cause serious injuries, Tiu said.
"We will file charges against him so that this will not be repeated and will not be imitated by other riders," said Tiu.
Tiu said they will deploy personnel to the area that had become a regular venue for drag races.
He said drag races being held in the area during weekends have become a form of gambling as riders bet money for every race.
