BACOLOD CITY – The Philippine Army 3rd Infantry Division (ID) honored Corporal Renold Gardose who was killed in an encounter with the New People’s Army (NPA) in Barangay Santo Niño, Tanjay City, Negros Oriental on Feb. 15.
Major Gen. Michael Samson, 3rd ID commander, said that Gardose displayed extraordinary courage and dedication to duty in the face of danger.
“We will ensure that the sacrifice of our soldier will never be in vain. His sacrifice is a testament to the unwavering commitment of our troops to protect the Negrenses from the threats of the remaining NPA rebels,” he added.
Gardose, a native of Tapaz, Capiz assigned to the 11th Infantry Battalion (IB), was among the soldiers who clashed with remnants of the dismantled South East Front (SEF), Komiteng Rehiyon-Negros.
Samson condoled with the family of Gardose and assured his family of the necessary assistance and support.
Samson also assured assistance to a wounded soldier – a private first class – during his recovery. “We will honor their sacrifices not only with words but also with concrete actions,” Samson said.
Brig. Gen. Jason Jumawan, commander of the 302nd Infantry Brigade (IBde), assured the public that heightened security operations continue in the area to safeguard civilians and prevent the resurgence of hostile elements.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
