JALLORINA
BUTUAN CITY – A New People’s Army (NPA) commander was killed and an undetermined number of his comrades were wounded in an encounter in the border of Agusan del Sur and Bukidnon early Monday morning, Feb. 16.
The fatality was identified as Kumander Tado, commanding officer of the Regional Operation Command of the North-Central Mindanao Regional Committee.
“His identity was confirmed by his former comrades in arms who just recently surrendered to our field troops,” said 8th Infantry (Dependable) Battalion commanding officer Lt. Col. Jorge R. Jallorina.
“Our ground troops are still pursuing the escaping NPAs located in the provincial boundary of Agusan and Bukidnon,” Jallorina said.
Recovered in the encounter site were one high-powered firearm and bullets.
Meanwhile, 13 NPA rebels surrendered in Bukidnon on Feb. 12 and turned over 20 assorted firearms and bullets. Also surrendering were an NPA supply officer and two fighters. They vowed to help the government’s peace and development program.
Eight former NPA rebels received financial and livelihood assistance during a ceremony in this city.
Agusan del Norte Gov. Maria Angelica Rosedell Amante and 402nd Infantry (Stingers) Brigade commanding general Brig. Gen. Adolfo B. Espuelas Jr. and 23rd Infantry Battalion commander Lt. Col. Glennford C. Libre led the distribution of assistance.
Espuelas said that the military remains committed not only to security operations but also to humanitarian and community-based efforts that encourage former rebels to embrace peaceful lives.
Amante reaffirmed the provincial government’s full support for reintegration initiatives, highlighting the importance of collaboration between the 402nd Brigade, local government units, and partner agencies in achieving lasting peace.
“Peace is sustained not only through security but through compassion, opportunity, and community support,” she said. “We will continue to work hand-in-hand with the military to ensure that those who choose peace are given a real chance to succeed.”
