QCPD recovers additional evidence in killing of policewoman, son
The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) has recovered additional pieces of evidence following the implementation of a search warrant at the residence of suspects Pia and Christian Panganiban in Barangay San Agustin, Novaliches, Quezon City.
This is in connection with the killings of Police Senior Master Sergeant Diane Marie Mollenido and her son.
According to QCPD, joint operatives carried out the operation at around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 12.
Personnel from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU), Novaliches Police Station 4, and the Quezon City District Forensic Unit (QCDFU) conducted the search and recovered multiple items believed to be relevant to the case.
Among the items seized were 14 swabbed biological fluid samples with suspected traces of blood, eight cut cloth materials with suspected blood stains, one tissue paper with suspected blood, nine hair strands believed to belong to the victims, and one cigarette butt.
Authorities also recovered five fragments of a styrofoam cooler, which investigators said was reportedly used to conceal the firearm during the commission of the crime.
All recovered materials were turned over to the QCDFU for proper forensic examination.
In addition, two CCTV units were seized and handed over to CIDU for further analysis.
Meanwhile, the legal counsel of the suspects has withdrawn from the case, causing a delay in the preliminary investigation.
The suspects have sought the assistance of the Public Attorney’s Office (PAO).
