Another suspect behind murder of policewoman and her son surrenders

Authorities confirmed on Monday, Feb. 2, that another suspect behind the killing of Police Senior Master Sergeant Diane Marie Mollenido and her son, John Ysmael, has surrendered, bringing the total number of persons in custody to five.
National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Director Police Major General Anthony Aberin said the suspect personally went to the Quezon City Police District’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (QCPD-CIDU). 
The individual is reportedly a sibling of one of the suspects who was earlier arrested in connection with the case.
PMGen Aberin said the surrender came as investigators continued questioning those believed to have played a role in the deaths of the victims.
The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU) identified the individual as Maribel Suarez Panganiban, sister of ex-policeman Christian Suarez Panganiban surrendered to authorities at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, Feb 2.
According to the report, the suspect was linked to the case through the judicial affidavit of another suspect, Gil Valdemoro Dy Jr., who claimed she helped clean up evidence inside the residence of the suspects. 
Dy also alleged that Maribel participated in the killing of the son of the victim.
Before the latest development, four individuals were already under police custody, including Police Senior Master Sergeant John Mollenido, the husband of the victim. 
Police have yet to disclose further details regarding the specific participation of the newly surrendered suspect, citing the need to protect the integrity of the case. 
Authorities said follow-up investigations are ongoing as they work toward the filing of appropriate charges.
Police Senior Master Sergeant Diane Marie Mollenido, 38, and her son were reported missing after leaving their home in Taguig City on Jan. 16.
Investigators determined that the policewoman and her son left their residence aboard a sports utility vehicle (SUV), which the police officer reportedly intended to sell.
The victims were last seen alive at the residence of the suspects in Barangay San Agustin, Novaliches, Quezon City.
On Jan. 19, at around 11:30 a.m., Mollenido’s husband reported the disappearance of his wife and son to the Taguig City Police Station.
During the initial investigation, police established that the SUV had been sold to a buy-and-sell agent for P450,000.
The SUV believed to have been used in disposing of the victims’ bodies was recovered in Pampanga and is undergoing forensic examination by the Philippine National Police Forensic Group in Angeles City.
