CEBU CITY – The driver in the hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of a young businessman recently posted bail on Friday, Feb. 13.
Sean Andrew Pajarillo posted P72,000 bail after he was charged for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to property in connection with the fatal road crash.
Pajarillo was the driver of a Toyota Innova that hit and killed Kingston Ralph Cheng near a posh subdivision in Barangay Banilad, Cebu City on Feb. 8.
Pajarillo tried to escape after the incident but was cornered when the vehicle he was driving hit a post and overturned.
Escorted by police in a Cebu City court, the 21-year-old man was able to post bail without spending a day in jail as he was placed under hospital arrest due to injuries he sustained during the crash.
Pajarillo was shown in several videos online seemingly drunk but a liquor test showed him negative for alcohol.
The Cebu City Police Office has confirmed that the liquor test was made 18 hours after the incident, a delay that may have affected its outcome.
Pajarillo posted bail a day after five individuals were arrested for allegedly posing as his security escorts.
Police Lt. Col. Mercy Kantuna of the Mandaue City Police Office said they arrived in a private hospital in Mandaue City where Pajarillo was recuperating.
They told police securing the room that they were sent to provide security to Pajarillo.
Police asked them to present documents showing that they were authorized to provide security. They were arrested when they failed to provide proof.
Lawmen said they violated Republic Act 11917 or the Private Security Services Act.
Lawyer Jude Dalman denied reports that they were hired as security escorts. He said they were just acquaintances who went to the hospital to visit Pajarillo.
Dalman expressed confidence that they would be cleared of charges.
“We are just waiting for the final order but most likely, the fiscal will dismiss this,” Dalman told reporters at the Mandaue City Prosecutors’ Office where they were brought on Friday.
