A man has been arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Makati City for threatening his former girlfriend to release their intimate videos if she would not have sex with him.
NBI Acting Director Angelito DLP. Magno said the suspect was arrested last Feb. 5 during an entrapment operation conducted by the NBI-Fraud and Financial Crimes Division (NBI-FFCD).
During the arrest, Magno said the female complainant positively identified the man as the person who had threatened her with the circulation of their intimate videos.
Following the arrest, Magno said the man – whose identity was not disclosed -- was presented for inquest before the Makati City Prosecutor’s Office for grave coercion under Article 286 of the Revised Penal Code (RPC); violation of Republic Act (RA) No. 9262, the Anti-Violence Against Women and Children Act; and violation of RA No. 9995, the Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act of 2009, in relation to RA No. 10175, the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
The NBI said the complainant alleged that her ex-boyfriend forwarded their intimate videos to her friend and threatened to share them with others if she refused to meet him and engage in sexual activity.
It also said the complainant was advised to meet the suspect as part of the entrapment operation.
"This operation not only reflects the NBl's dedication to upholding the rule of law but also highlights its commitment to protecting vulnerable individuals, especially women from various forms of abuse and exploitation," Magno said.
