A festive table for the Year of the Horse at Jasmine
New World Makati Hotel's Chinese restaurant marks Lunar New Year with a traditional multi-course banquet designed for sharing
A media preview lunch at Jasmine offered an early look at how the restaurant is marking the Lunar New Year ahead of the Year of the Horse, blending Cantonese tradition with the unhurried rhythm of a long, celebratory meal. Held at New World Makati Hotel, the afternoon preview showcased Jasmine’s Chinese New Year set menus, led by the Great Fortune 88 Set Menu, a banquet-style spread designed for family-style dining and group celebrations around the round table.
The meal opens with the Great Fortune, Prosperity Salmon Yee Sang, the ceremonial raw fish salad traditionally tossed high at the table as diners voice wishes for abundance and good luck. Crisp textures and bright flavors set the tone for what follows, beginning with a BBQ combination of roasted honey pork and crispy pork belly, served glossy and richly seasoned.
A warming bowl of golden pumpkin seafood with conpoy broth arrives next, its naturally sweet squash base enriched with dried scallop and seafood. Stir-fried chicken and shrimps with celery and shimeji mushrooms add balance and crunch, before the centerpiece dish: steamed garoupa finished with ginger, scallions and supreme soy sauce, a nod to the Lunar New Year tradition of serving whole fish to symbolize surplus and continuity.
The banquet continues with braised abalone mushrooms, dried oyster and shiitake, paired with sea moss and broccoli, dishes long associated with prosperity in Chinese celebratory cuisine. Wok-fried rice with chicken, Chinese preserved meat and asparagus anchors the meal, offering familiarity and comfort.
Dessert is a two-part close. Hot almond cream with glutinous rice balls provides warmth and subtle sweetness, followed by nian gao, the sticky rice cake traditionally served to signify growth and progress in the year ahead.
The Great Fortune 88 Set Menu is priced at P55,888 net for 10 persons. A special pre-order rate of P45,888 net for 10 persons is available for confirmed reservations with deposit or full payment made before Feb. 10, 2026. The pre-order package includes one bottle of red or white wine. Prices are inclusive of government taxes and a 6.5 percent service charge.
Designed for sharing and unhurried conversation, the menu reflects the essence of Lunar New Year dining: food as a symbol of continuity, generosity and time spent together.
