2 overstaying Chinese nationals arrested in Tacloban City -- BI
Two overstaying Chinese nationals, one of whom attempted to pose as a Filipino, have been arrested in Tacloban City, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said on Friday, Feb. 6.
Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony M. Viado identified them as Zhu Fulin, 51, and Wu Huoyan, 53, who were arrested by operatives of the BI’s Fugitive Search Unit (BI-FSU) last Jan. 29.
Viado said they were arrested at an e-bike commercial establishment where they worked in Barangay 91 in Abucay, Tacloban City. They were found to be overstaying foreigners, he also said.
During the arrest, Viado said that Wu attempted to represent himself as a Filipino by presenting a Philippine identification card. Wu’s visa expired in 2020, he also said.
Zhu, on the other hand, failed to present any valid immigration document and was found overstaying since 2023, he added.
“We will not tolerate foreigners who overstay, misrepresent themselves, or illegally engage in work at the expense of our laws and our people,” Viado stressed.
Wu and Zhu have been flown to Manila and are now detained at the BI’s Warden facility pending their deportation, the BI said.
