Foreigner operating business 'without proper documents' arrested
A Chinese national, who was found operating a business in Zamboanga del Sur without proper documents, was arrested by operatives of the Bureau of Immigration (BI).
Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony M. Viado identified the arrested foreigner as Jianhong Liu, 52, who was apprehended last Jan. 20 in Barangay Sampaguita in Buug town.
Viado said that Jianhong was arrested at a commercial establishment where he was acting as a manager and actively engaging with customers.
Prior to his arrest, the BI said that Jianhong presented only a digital copy of his passport as he claimed that he left it in Manila.
After verification, it said that Jianhong was in violation of Philippine immigration laws.
Viado reminded foreigners that “while the Philippines remains open to legitimate foreign visitors and investors, our laws must be respected at all times.”
He warned that foreigners who engage in activities beyond what their visa allows, or who fail to present valid travel documents, will be dealt with accordingly.”
