Sen Joel Villanueva submits counter-affidavit in a flood control case at DOJ
Senator Joel Villanueva on Friday, Jan. 23, filed his counter-affidavit on the non-bailable malversation of public funds case filed against him in the “anomalous” flood control projects in Bulacan.
DOJ Spokesperson Raphael Niccolo L. Martinez confirmed that Villanueva was at the department personally and filed his affidavit before a panel of prosecutors conducting the preliminary investigation.
Martinez said that Villanueva “filed his counter-affidavit ahead of the preliminary investigation set for Monday, Jan. 26.”
He said that Villanueva was charged with malversation of public funds together with 34 other respondents, among them former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Bulacan District Engineer Henry C. Alcantara and former DPWH Bulacan First District Assistant Engineers Brice D. Hernandez and Jaypee D. Mendoza.
He also said the case is one of the second batch of flood control cases pending before the DOJ involving Wawao Construction and Topnotch Catalyst Builders.
Of the six cases, Martinez said that Villanueva was named as respondent in three cases.
Martinez, however, did not disclose the details of the cases.
