President Marcos spent the night under medical observation after experiencing discomfort, Malacañang said, as the Palace stressed that the President’s condition remains stable and that he has since returned to work.
In a press briefing on Thursday, Jan. 22, Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary Claire Castro said the medical observation was undertaken as a precautionary measure, but the President is now back to work.
“The President spent the night under medical observation as a precautionary measure after experiencing discomfort. His doctors advised rest and monitoring, and his condition remains stable,” she said.
“The President continued to carry out his responsibilities while under medical observation and has returned to Malacañan,” she added.
In a separate text message, Castro told Palace reporters that the President was brought to St. Luke's Medical Center in Quezon City.
President Marcos last attended the 7th Bangsamoro Foundation Day at the Shariff Kabunsuan Cultural Complex in Cotabato City on Wednesday afternoon. Meanwhile, Executive Secretary Ralph Recto represented him at the awarding of The Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) 2025 at Malacañan on Thursday morning.
Asked about the President’s current condition, Castro said that while they were not given details on the specific discomfort experienced by the President, there was no cause for public concern.
“Ang importante po dito, at dapat nating maipaalam sa ating mga kababayan, na siya po ngayon ay muling nagtatrabaho at nasa Malacañan (What is important, and what we should inform our countrymen, is that he is now back to work and is in Malacañan),” she said.
“Siya po ay nasa maayos na kalagayan at mamayang hapon ay magkakaroon pa po siya ng dalawang pribadong meetings (He is in good condition and later this afternoon he will still have two private meetings),” she added.
Castro suggested that the discomfort may have been due to fatigue.
“Kahit noong madaling araw po ay nagtatrabaho po ang Pangulo. Malamang po ang naranasan niya ay sobrang pagod sa pagtatrabaho (Even in the early hours, the President was still working. So he was just probably exhausted from working),” she said.
The Palace Official said Marcos may appear in public in the coming days if cleared by his doctors.
“At tingnan po natin kung bukas — dahil meron po siyang event — kung maa-advise siya ng doktor na okay naman po siya, malamang po ay makikita rin agad natin ang Pangulo (We will see tomorrow — since he has an event — if the doctors advise that he is okay, we will likely see the President again soon),” she said.
