President Marcos is unfazed over the impeachment complaint filed against him, stressing that he did not commit any impeachable offense.
Palace Press Officer and Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro revealed on Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 20, following a meeting with the President, that she was able to personally ask Marcos about the impeachment case.
"Yes natanong ko na po siya ng personal. Hindi naman po siya nababahala dahil alam niya na wala siyang ginawang impeachable offense na maaaring masabi na siya ay dapat managot (Yes, I already asked him personally. He is not worried because he knows he has not committed any impeachable offense that could be said to hold him accountable)," Castro said.
"Alam po niya na siya ay nagtatrabaho na naayon sa Constitution at sa batas (He knows that he is working in accordance with the Constitution and the law)," she added.
The Palace official also said that the President is confident that the impeachment complaint will not push through as he has not done anything wrong.
"Yes, kompiyansya dahil wala siyang ginawang mali (Yes, he is confident, because he hasn't done anything wrong)," Castro said.
Pusong Pinoy Party-list Rep. Jett Nisay endorsed on Monday, Jan. 19 an impeachment complaint against Marcos, the first under the latter's administration.
The arguments were anchored on the grounds of culpable violation of the Constitution, betrayal of public trust, and graft and corruption.
In a statement on Monday, Marcos said he respects the filing of an impeachment complaint against him, stressing that such action is part of the democratic process under the Constitution.
On Tuesday morning, Malacañang refuted claims that the impeachment complaint filed against President Marcos was just a "scripted distraction."
Castro, in a Palace briefing, belied Duterte's allegation that the administration was the one behind the impeachment case, stressing that Marcos is "not expert in planting evidence."
