Construction of new Muntinlupa-San Pedro bridge to take 7 months to complete
The construction of the new bridge at the boundary of Muntinlupa and San Pedro, Laguna will take about seven months to finish.
The estimated duration of the bridge project was provided by a source to Manila Bulletin.
Motorists and commuters are bracing themselves for heavy traffic when the project construction starts on Feb. 1.
The boundary of Muntinlupa and San Pedro is a gateway for thousands of people and vehicles daily.
The local governments of Muntinlupa and San Pedro will implement a new traffic scheme from Feb. 1 due to the project.
“Please be informed that the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will commence the Replacement of the Muntinlupa-Tunasan–San Pedro Bridge, effective February 1, 2026. Stop-and-go traffic scheme will be implemented on site. Vehicles with 6 wheels and above are not allowed to pass and are advised to use SLEX [South Luzon Expressway]. Moderate to heavy traffic is expected in the area. Motorists are advised to plan their trips ahead and strictly observe traffic rules and regulations,” the Muntinlupa Traffic Management Bureau (MTMB) advised the public.
The San Pedro local government earlier said in the first phase of the bridge construction, half of the bridge will be torn down while the other half will be open to light vehicles.
All northbound Class 2 and Class 3 vehicles will be directed to the SLEX San Pedro toll plaza. The U-turn slot at the Alaska bridge will be removed.
All passenger buses and trucks from the Alabang area will be directed to exit La Marea, pass through Magsaysay Road and Fr. Masi towards USPS and National Highway.
The construction of the new bridge will affect commuters. Passenger buses from San Pedro pass through the boundary to pick up passengers in Muntinlupa, including at Susana Heights Road.
Southbound Pacita Complex buses also exit the Susana Heights toll gate to unload passengers from the Susana Heights Road up to the Barangay Tunasan area in Muntinlupa.
Last Jan. 13, personnel from the San Pedro Public Order and Safety Office, the Department of Public Works and Highways-National Capital Region, construction firm, MTMB and Muntinlupa City Engineering Office held a meeting to discuss traffic management plans for the bridge construction.
