CEBU CITY – A newborn baby girl was found abandoned by the road here on Tuesday morning, Jan. 20.
Miracalously, the baby was still alive even if it took hours before she was discovered stuffed in an eco bag.
Police are investigating if the mother of the baby intentionally left the baby.
The eco bag containing the baby was found at the foot of an eletric post on Gotianuy St. in Barangay Kamputhaw.
Police said a caretaker of an establishment was cleaning the area when an ambulance arrived.
Passengers of the ambulance approached the caretaker and asked her if she had found an eco bag containing the placenta of a newborn child.
The area was searched until they found an eco bag.
A police officer checked the bag and was shocked to find a newborn baby inside.
The baby was taken to the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) where it was discovered that she was still breathing.
It turned out that the mother of the baby, a saleslady from Lapu-Lapu City, was also confined at CCMC.
A female friend of the mother, aged 25, said that she slept in her boarding house.
The friend said it was around 3 a.m. when she woke her up, complaining that she was bleeding profusely.
The friend suspected that she suffered a miscarriage and did not think that she had given birth as she thought that she was five-months pregnant.
An ambulance was called in. While waiting for an ambulance, the mother was seen going outside the house carrying an eco bag.
The friend said she didn’t know what was inside the eco bag.
When the woman was admitted at CCMC, the friend returned to the area where the mother was seen dumping the eco bag and was shocked to discover that it contained a baby.
Police Lt. Col. Jose Losbanos, information officer of the Cebu City Police Office, said the incident will be investigated further to determine the possible liability of the mother.
