CEBU CITY – More than 100 stolen cellphones, including high-end brands, were recovered from a shop in Barangay Pahina Central here on Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 20.
Operatives of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), led by Police Col. George Ylanan, raided a cellphone repair shop after they discovered that stolen cell phones were sold there.
Ylanan said the recovered gadgets, including iPhone sets, were stolen last year and during the recent Sinulog.
During the raid, Ylanan said they were accompanied by four complainants who used global positioning system (GPS) to trace their stolen phones.
Through GPS tracking, it was found that the missing phones were brought to the area where the shop was located.
“This is a phone repair shot but they also buy phones specially iPhones,” said Ylanan.
Upon inspection, Ylanan said they found a secret door that would led to the second floor. Found on the second floor of the shop was three bags full of cellphones.
A man tending the shop tried to escape but was cornered by the police.
The four complainants who used the GPS found their missing cellphones in the shop.
Police said people with stolen cell phones are advised to visit the CCPO to identify their gadgets and file necessary charges against the culprit.
