Palace tags possible impeachment case vs Marcos as 'political maneuverings'
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. (Mark Balmores)
Malacañang said the possible filing of impeachment complaint against President Marcos is among the "unsubstantiated statements" coming from supporters of "a certain politician," tagging it as "political maneuverings."
In a statement Palace Press Officer and Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said they are aware of the impeachment claim, but stressed that the President remains unfazed and focused on his responsibilities.
"The administration will not speculate on rumours or political maneuverings," Castro said in a message to reporters on Sunday, Jan. 11.
Caloocan City 2nd District Rep. Edgar Erice disclosed on Sunday that an impeachment complaint against Marcos may be filed by several lawmakers once the House resumes session.
"We have seen this statement made by a lawmaker. At this point, these are unsubstantiated statements allegedly coming from the supporters of a certain politician," Castro said.
"The President remains committed to leading and producing results for the Filipino people," she added.
The Palace official stated that the President, however, respects the Constitution and believes that any action taken by lawmakers are based on facts, the law, and national interest.
"He respects the existing constitutional processes and believes that any actions taken by members of Congress will be driven by facts, the law, and national interest," Castro said.
According to Erice, discussions within the members of the House of Representatives are not limited to the impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte, as the one-year bar rule for filing an impeachment complaint against her will lapse on Feb. 6.
