Family of 3 killed in La Union road crash

VIGAN CITY – A family of three was killed after their tricycle was struck by a pickup truck in Barangay Central East, Bauang, La Union, early Sunday morning.

Police identified the fatalities as Sergio Patajo, 55, tricycle driver; his wife Daisy; and their son Alexander, 22.

Police Staff Sgt. Juan Paulo Q. Malare, officer-on-case of the Bauang Municipal Police Station, said the tricycle signaled to make a right turn but was hit by the pickup truck driven by Ruel Banisal Sanche, 41.

Daisy and Alexander died on the spot from severe injuries. Sergio was taken to the Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center where he died.

Sanche was taken to the Caba District Hospital in Caba, La Union.

Malare said test results showed that Sanche was drunk at the time of the accident.

Sanche is detained at the Bauang Municipal Police Station and faces appropriate charges to be filed in court on Monday, Jan. 12.
