Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco and former Philippine Airlines president and COO Stanley Ng (DOT, PAL)
Malacañang has denied reports that Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Christina Frasco is facing removal and that aviation executive Stanley Ng will replace her following criticisms of her leadership.
Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary Claire Castro said this amid reports circulating online about a supposedly impending leadership change in the DOT.
In a text message on Thursday, Jan. 8, Castro denied reports that Ng, a former Philippine Airlines (PAL) executive, will take over the Tourism department.
“Negative,” Castro said in a brief message to reporters.
The denial came after online reports and commentaries claimed Malacañang was considering Ng for the Cabinet post.
The reports said Ng, a former president and chief operating officer of PAL, was being eyed to lead the DOT amid criticism of its performance.
They also suggested that the Palace was looking at private-sector managers with execution experience to run key agencies.
Castro did not provide further details and did not indicate any impending changes at the Tourism department.
Christina Frasco remains the incumbent secretary of the Department of Tourism.
Stanley Ng, son-in-law of tycoon Lucio Tan, has not publicly commented on the reports linking him to the Cabinet post.
Frasco has faced online criticism in recent years over the department’s campaigns and messaging, including the scrapped “Love the Philippines” tourism campaign in 2023. The DOT is currently being mocked for promotions that feature Frasco’s face and not the destinations themselves.
The DOT has brushed off criticisms and insists that its strategy is working based on its own numbers.
