Amid rumors of a potential revamp of President Marcos’ cabinet, the Department of Education (DepEd) on Wednesday, January 7, reaffirmed Secretary Sonny Angara’s dedication to continuing the department’s reform agenda.
“Secretary Angara serves at the pleasure of the president,” DepEd said in a statement.
“Unless otherwise instructed, tuloy-tuloy lang po ang ating butihing kalihim sa pagtatrabaho at pagtutulak ng mga makabuluhang reporma, alinsunod sa utos ni Pangulong Marcos, na mapabuti ang sektor ng edukasyon, lalong lalo na ng ating mga mag-aaral at ng mga guro (Our esteemed Secretary will continue working and pushing for meaningful reforms, in line with President Marcos’ directive to improve the education sector, especially for our students and teachers),” DepEd added.
The statement comes amid speculation that the President may consider reshuffling members of his cabinet to strengthen government efficiency.
Despite the circulating reports, DepEd emphasized Angara’s commitment to the continuity of ongoing programs and policies aimed at improving access to quality education across the country.
During the Malacañang Press Briefing on January 6, Angara expressed gratitude to the President for the 2026 DepEd budget.
“Nagpapasalamat po tayo kay Pangulong Bongbong sa napakagandang resulta dito sa General Appropriations Act or 2026 budget… makasaysayan (We extend our gratitude to President Bongbong for the excellent outcome in the General Appropriations Act or the 2026 budget … It is historic),” he added.
