BuCor: Bilibid's PDLs had over 7,000 visitors during Christmas, New Year celebrations
More than 7,000 persons, most of them family members, visited the persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City during the Christmas and New Year celebrations, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said.
BuCor Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr. said there were 4,676 regular family visits and 2,492 stay-in or conjugal visits.
Catapang said “these visits are a lifeline -- providing emotional support and a reminder of their lives outside the confines of the corrections facility and the ability to spend quality time together, even behind bars – that helps mitigate some of the emotional strains associated with incarceration.”
He also said the festivities at the NBP during the Christmas and New Year celebrations “may not resemble those experienced by the general public, but they find their way into the hearts of both inmates and their families from shared meals to exchanging simple gifts.”
“The record number of visitors this holiday season exemplifies the enduring human spirit and the importance of maintaining relationships, reminding everyone that love knows no bounds, even where freedom is restricted,” he added.
