CEBU CITY – This city has been placed on heightened alert as the Sinulog 2026 is just two weeks away.
Cebu City Councilor Dave Tumulak, chairman of the executive committee of the Sinulog Foundation Inc., said the city is on blue alert status, which means government agencies are on heightened monitoring to ensure public safety.
A send-off ceremony for at least 10,000 personnel from various law enforcement agencies and civilian anti-crime volunteers tasked to secure the major event will be held on Monday, Jan. 5.
Tumulak said preparations for the religious and cultural aspects of Sinulog are already 70 percent complete
“We are just finalizing some technical aspects,” Tumulak said.
Tumulak said all is set for the Fiesta Senor, the religious aspect of Sinulog Festival held in honor of the Santo Nino, which will formally kick off with the Walk with Jesus on Jan. 8.
The solemn foot procession will also signal the start of the novena masses leading to the fiesta day on Jan. 18.
The Sinulog Grand Parade on Jan. 18 will begin at 8 a.m. with a Mass to be presided over by Cebu Archbishop Emeritus Jose Palma.
Tumulak disclosed that 40 contingents have signed up for the festival.
