Two foreign “fugitives” were barred from entering the Philippines upon their arrival at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) last Thursday, Jan. 1, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said.
The BI identified them as Mongolian national Battulga Ganbold, 30, and Turkish national Ercan Mutlu, 37.
It said its immigration officers were alerted of the foreigners’ arrival through the Advance Passenger Information System (APIS).
“The country’s APIS, donated by the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) with the support of the Australian Government, continues to provide advanced intelligence information that enables authorities to identify high-risk passengers even before their arrival,” it also said.
The BI noted that Ganbold, who arrived from Vietnam, is the subject of an arrest warrant in South Korea for a drug-related offense.
Mutlu, on the other hand, arrived from Japan and is a fugitive in Turkey for sexual exploitation and prostitution charges.
