The annual trek of pilgrims from the Quiapo Church in Manila to the Antipolo Cathedral in Rizal Province was orderly and peaceful, the Rizal Police Provincial Office (Rizal PPO) said.
Rizal PPO director Col. Felipe Maraggun said the Walk For Peace (traditionally called Alay Lakad) of Catholic devotees from the Minor Basilica and National Shrine of the Black Nazarene in Manila to the International Shrine of the Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage (Antipolo Cathedral) in Antipolo City, from the evening on April 30 towards the early morning on May 1 was generally peaceful.
Maraggun said some 460,000 pilgrims, both devotees of the Black Nazarene and the Nuestra Senora dela Paz Y Buenviaje trooped to Antipolo to fulfill their yearly devotion as part of the "Ahunan sa Antipolo" (ascent to Antipolo) activities.
Several policemen in uniform and city government's emergency responders, peace keepers and traffic enforcers were deployed for the event.

During the months of May to July, the pilgrimage season is observed with devotees from different parts of the country, others coming home from abroad, pay homage to the Blessed Virgin Mary, whose 17th century brown-skinned image is enshrined in the Antipolo Cathedral.
The Alay Lakad happens twice each year, first during Holy Thursday to Good Friday and then on April 30 to May 1.
