The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has confirmed the death of the second of four Filipinos missing after the devastating 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck Myanmar on March 28.

In a statement on Thursday morning, April 10, the DFA said the Philippine Embassy in Yangon confirmed the identification of the second confirmed Filipino casualty of the devastating quake.

The victim's family was already informed of the situation. However, no other detail has been disclosed.

"The family of the deceased Filipino has been informed. They have requested media to respect their privacy in this very difficult time," the DFA said.

"Out of respect for the wishes of the family, the Department is unable to provide any further details," it added.

Meanwhile, the DFA said it was hoping for the best for the two remaining Filipinos still unaccounted for in Mandalay, Myanmar.

The DFA's announcement came after it confirmed the death of a missing Filipino on April 9.

Meanwhile, the family of the first Filipino who died in the devastating earthquake expressed sorrow over the passing of their kin.

In an online post, Facebook user Alvin Aragon shared that authorities had already found the remains of his younger brother, whom he identified in the post as Francis Aragon.

"We are currently mourning and grieving for the [loss] of our youngest brother. We thank God for all the grace, comfort, encouragement, and strength He has given these past weeks," he wrote.

The earthquake's epicenter was near Mandalay, Myanmar's second-largest city, causing widespread destruction across multiple regions. As of April 7, reports indicate that the death toll has surpassed 3,600, with over 5,000 injured and 160 individuals still missing.

Nearly 1,740 personnel from 20 countries, including the Philippines, have been involved in rescue operations, which have resulted in the extraction of over 600 survivors.

The Philippine government has been actively involved in the search and rescue operations. It has deployed a 91-member inter-agency humanitarian contingent to assist in the earthquake relief operations in Myanmar.

The Philippine Embassy in Yangon remains in close coordination with local authorities and international partners to ensure the safety and well-being of Filipinos in Myanmar.

In a Facebook post, the Philippine Embassy in Yangon announced that it is offering repatriation to Filipinos who request it. It also offers transportation assistance for relocation, temporary accommodation for 14 days, financial assistance for qualified individuals, and trauma counseling services.
