2 Chinese arrested, woman rescued from 'illegal online gambling' operation
Two Chinese nationals were arrested and a woman was rescued from an illegal online gambling operation in Paranaque City, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said.

The NBI identified those arrested as Chan Sai Hoong and Chan Sai Wai who were apprehended last April 2 during a rescue operation conducted by agents of the NBI Cybercrime Division (CCD) at the Aseana One located along Bradco Avenue in Paranaque City.
During the rescue operation, the bureau said the rescued female confirmed that the two Chinese nationals held her against her will.
“The evidence gathered establishes that the Subjects are engaged in human trafficking activities, including the recruitment, harboring, and coercion of the victim to work against her will,” it said.
It also said "the victim was forced to participate in illegal gambling activities and was subjected to threats and intimidation, and restricted her freedom."
The arrested foreigners were presented for inquest before the Paranaque City Prosecutor’s Office for violation of Section 4(a) of Republic Act (RA) No. 11862, the Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons of 2022.
The BI said the rescue operation was conducted based on the complaint made by the victim’s friend.
“According to the complainant, her friend was being forced to work against her will, subjected to a quota system based on deposits, and coerced into participating in illegal gambling activities at Aseana One, Bradco Avenue, Parañaque City,” it said.
“Victim also reported receiving threats to her safety, as the perpetrators knew her residential address and warned her that any attempt to seek help from authorities would put her life in danger,” it added.
