Suspected illegal recruiter nabbed at NAIA

A suspected illegal recruiter has been arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) for attempting to send her two recruits to Thailand as missionaries, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said on Thursday, April 3.

The NBI identified the arrested suspect as Priscilla Sunga Tabilog who was intercepted along with two Filipinos by immigration officers.

“Investigation revealed that the two (2) Victims were pretending to be missionary volunteers with Subject Tabilog bound for Thailand,” the NBI said.

It said the two "victims" admitted “they had actually been promised teaching jobs in Thailand, and Subject Tabilog had facilitated their travel.”

“Verification with the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) revealed through certification that Subject Tabilog is not licensed or authorized to recruit workers for overseas deployment,” it also said.

“They presented various documents from the Alliance of Bishops, Ministers, and Educators International Inc., which was founded by Priscilla Tabilog, who also serves as its President,” it added.

After Tabilog's arrest, the NBI said that she underwent online inquest proceeding before the Pasay City Prosecutor’s Office for violations of Republic Act (RA) No. 8042, the Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipinos Act of 1995, as amended, and RA 9208, the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003, as amended.
