A Swedish national who is wanted in his country for the alleged rape of a 10-year-old girl has been arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Pampanga.
The NBI identified the foreigner as Heinz Henry Andreas Berglund who was arrested by operatives of the Violence Against Women and Children Division (NBI-VAWCD) in Angeles City last Wednesday, April 2.
“The case stemmed from the information received from the Swedish Police Authority (SPA) through the Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) regarding an alleged Swedish child-sexual offender,” the BI said.
“Subject Berglund is the subject of SPA investigation for two counts of ‘Rape of a Child’ and was previously suspected of the rape of 10-year-old child in Sweden in 2021,” it also said.
On top of the new charges, the BI said that it was informed that Berglund had been convicted for serious financial fraud in 2009 and 2013.
Berglund arrived in the Philippines on March 18.
After his case was referred to the NBI last March 25, the bureau said operatives proceeded to Angeles City to conduct surveillance operations against Berglund.
It said agents of NBI-VAWCD proceeded with the arrest of Berglund after the it received information from the SPA last March 31 that “a warrant of arrest is issued by Senior Prosecutor of Sweden against the Subject for the offenses of Rape of a Child, Preparation to Rape of a Child (Chapter 6, Section 4), Gross Sexual Assault of a Child (Chapter 6, Section 6) and Child Pornography Offence (Chapter 16, Section 10a), all under the Swedish Criminal Code.”
“The Subject's passport has already been revoked by SPA as he is already wanted in Sweden,” it noted.
