Bulusan Volcano in Sorsogon erupted for the second consecutive day on Tuesday, April 29, said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
Phivolcs said the phreatic or steam-driven eruption began at 7:43 p.m. and ended at 9 p.m.
This follows a similar phreatic eruption recorded on Monday, April 28.
Phivolcs noted that rumbling sounds associated with the volcanic activity were heard in the municipalities of Cogon and Irosin, both in Sorsogon province.
Bulusan Volcano’s alert status was raised from Level 0 (normal) to 1 (low-level unrest), following the phreatic eruption on April 28.
Phivolcs reiterated that entry into the four-kilometer permanent danger zone remains strictly prohibited.
In addition, residents and local authorities are advised to exercise caution within the two-kilometer extended danger zone on the southeast flank, which is susceptible to ashfall, PDCs, rockfall, and other volcanic hazards.
Phivolcs Director Dr. Teresito Bacolcol earlier warned that phreatic eruptions remain possible in the coming days as the volcano continues to exhibit signs of unrest.
