The Valenzuela City government took a major step toward sustainable urban mobility on Friday, April 25, with the official turnover of 41 electric vehicles (EVs) for use in police operations and various local government offices.

The distribution ceremony, held at the ALERT Center, was led by Mayor Weslie “WES” Gatchalian, alongside Senator Sherwin “Win” Gatchalian, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Juanito Victor Remulla, and former Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto.
According to the City Public Information Office (PIO), 35 of the five-seater EVs were turned over to the Valenzuela City Police Station (VCPS), while six units were allocated to other city government offices.
The initiative is part of Valenzuela’s “Go Green” program, which aims to modernize public service while promoting environmental sustainability.
The city government allocated P75.7 million for the purchase of electric vehicles, making Valenzuela the first local government unit in the country to deploy EVs on a large scale for law enforcement.
The initiative marked the beginning of the city’s transition to sustainable and eco-friendly alternative transportation.
Gatchalian underscored the dual benefits of adopting electric vehicles — cleaner air and better public service.
Electric vehicles offer a cleaner alternative,” he said.
“This initiative supports our City Ordinance No. 525, Series of 2018, or the ‘Environment Code of Valenzuela City,’ which guides our environmental programs,” Gatchalian added.
The mayor also emphasized that embracing EVs not only promotes cleaner air but also sets a positive example for local industries.
“It proves that progress and sustainability are not mutually exclusive — they go hand in hand. And through this shift, we can still deliver the same quality of service to our people while helping protect the environment,” he said.

During the event, the city also unveiled its first government-operated EV charging station at the ALERT Center.
It is the first of 13 city-owned EV charging stations set to be installed at Valenzuela City Hall and selected 3S Centers throughout the city.
The city government said that the transition to electric vehicles is expected to generate significant savings in fuel and maintenance costs over time, while simultaneously reducing the city’s carbon footprint.
The “Go Green Valenzuela” program reflects the city’s commitment to innovation and climate action, ensuring a safer, cleaner, and more sustainable future for all Pamilyang Valenzuelano.
It was launched on Dec. 10, 2024, in partnership with ACMobility and BYD Philippines, which drove the adoption of sustainable transport solutions that benefit both the environment and public service delivery. By replacing traditional gasoline-powered police vehicles with energy-efficient EVs, the city government is set to save hundreds of millions of pesos in fuel and maintenance costs over the long term.
