The city government of Antipolo and the Diocese of Antipolo have joined the rest of the country and the world in mourning the passing of Pope Francis.

City Mayor Casimiro “Junjun” Ynares, III said in his social media account that the city government is mourning the passing of Pope Francis, whom he said was the guiding light of faith and compassion.
Ynares said the pope’s leadership reminded us of the power of humility, inclusion, and unwavering love for all.
Bishop Ruperto Cruz Santos of the Diocese of Antipolo also posted his message on the official social media page of the diocese, saying that the world lost a father, a holy and very human father.

Bishop Santos said Pope Francis, with his paternal and pastoral care, had granted us hope and helped us in turbulent and trying times, gave us healing of ourselves and of the world.
The Antipolo bishop also urged the faithful to live what the Holy Father, Francis, had shown and shared to the people.
“The Diocese of Antipolo stands in unity with the whole Church in this moment of sorrow and bereavement. We lift our prayers and offer our Holy Masses for the repose of his soul, entrusting him to the infinite mercy of God. May his legacy continue to inspire us to walk in faith, hope and love,” Bishop Santos’ message reads.

At the International Shrine of the Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage, the seat of the diocese, a framed picture of the 88-year-old pontiff, who is regarded as the “People’s Pope”, is displayed beside the altar where the churchgoers may offer flowers and prayers.
The Antipolo Cathedral said it was in the late pontiff’s papacy that the Antipolo’s cathedral was elevated into an international shrine, and was bestowed with the Rosa Aurea, a token of veneration and honor gifted by the Vatican to the Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage.
