Group, Marikina clans call for fair hearing for Mayor Marcy

The Mayors for Good Governance movement and around 40 clans in Marikina have called for a fair and just ruling on the charges filed against Mayor Marcy Teodoro and other city officials who are currently under a six-month preventive suspension due to alleged misuse of P130 million in PhilHealth funds.

“Nananawagan ang Mayors for Good Governance para sa isang makatarungan at malinaw na proseso ng pagdinig ukol sa anim na buwang suspension na ipinataw ng Ombudsman kay Marikina Mayor Marcy Teodoro (We are calling for a fair and transparent hearing process regarding the six-month suspension imposed by the Ombudsman on Marikina Mayor Marcy Teodoro),” the movement said.

The clans also expressed their full support for the officials and hoped for their exoneration from the charges filed against them.

“Ang Samahan ng mga Angkan sa Marikina ay labis na nababahala sa mga kaganapan sa ating lungsod noong nakaraang linggo. Nais naming ipaabot kay Mayor Marcy at sa lahat ng kanyang mga kasama ang aming buong suporta at panalangin na mabigyan sila ng makatarungang hatol sa kasong kinakaharap nila ngayon (The Association of Clans in Marikina is deeply concerned about the recent events in our city over the past week. We extend our full support and prayers to Mayor Marcy and his colleagues, hoping that they will receive a fair and just ruling in the case they are currently facing),” Roan Santos, the group’s president, said.

The group condemned what they called "dirty politics" used by Teodoro's opponents to damage his reputation, including filing what they claim to be "false charges" against the mayor.

“Ramdam na ramdam naming ang kalungkutan sa ating paligid. Ramdam na ramdan din namin ang galit ng taong bayan sa maruming uri ng pamumulitika ng mga kalaban (We can truly feel the sadness around us. We also sense the anger of the people towards the corrupt and unfair political tactics being used by the opponents),” Santos expressed.

Santos also urged other clans and residents to support candidates who truly care for the city, not just those who show up during elections.

On March 25, a 10-page order was served by the OMB, stating that Teodoro, together with Vice Mayor Marion S. Andres and 17 other local officials were suspended “without pay during the pendency of these cases until their termination, but not to exceed a total period of six months.”

The suspension stemmed from the complaint filed against the local officials by Sofronio Dulay on April 26, 2024.

Dulay alleged that the respondent city officials used PhilHealth funds for the purchase of various IT equipment, infrastructure repair, and general supplies and for donations.
