A person deprived of liberty (PDL) who escaped from the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF) in Palawan 22 years ago has been rearrested, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said.
In a statement, the BuCor said that the escapee, whose identify was withheld, was arrested last March 22 in Sitio Bunga in Barangay Quintin Remo in Moises Padilla town in Negros Occidental.
“He had been serving a sentence at Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF) Inagawan Sub-Colony for theft but escaped on 09 September 2002, and had remained at large until his recent re-apprehension,” the bureau said.
He was rearrested by operatives of the IPPF Fugitive Recovery Team from Palawan led by IPPF Superintendent C/Supt. Garry A. Garcia, it also said.
The BuCor noted that the operation was done in coordination with the Police Intelligence Unit (PIU) of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (PPO), and the Moises Padilla Municipal Police Station (MPS).
The bureau said BuCor Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr. “consistently supports joint law enforcement efforts” that “lead to the successful apprehension of fugitives.”
