300 Bilibid PDLs transferred to Iwahig Prison in Palawan

A total of 300 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) left the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City last Friday, March 28, for their transfer to the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF) in Palawan, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said.

The PDLs from NBP's medium-security compound were transported to the Port of Manila to board a vessel that will bring them to IPPF in Puerto Princesa City.

BuCor Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr. said "they were transferred as part of our effort to decongest NBP and to support the manpower needs of IPPF in its agricultural project."

“The newly transferred PDLs bring  to 10, 227 the total number of PDLs transferred from NBP to other Operating Prison and Penal Farms in the country," the BuCor said in a statement.

About 100 BuCor's corrections officers, led by CCInsp. Arlene Casilihan, escorted the PDLs on their trip to Palawan.

The escorts were also supported by the Philippine National Police (PNP), the Philippine Coast Guard, and the South Luzon Expressway Patrol, it said.
