RIVERS are monitored in Matag-ob, Leyte for flooding caused by the shear line.

Matag-ob, Leyte Mayor Bernandino Tacoy said many farmers were affected and were unable to harvest their crops, particularly in Barangays Bonoy, Santo Rosario, Balagtas, and Mansalip.

Tacoy appealed for assistance from the national government. He expressed concern about the effects of continuous rain.

“Rice farming is our main livelihood in Matag-ob and there are many farmers affected by flooding. We are hoping that national government agencies can help us solve our long-time plea for a flood control project,” Tacoy said.

San Miguel, Leyte Mayor Norman Sabdao, whose town was also affected by the flooding, vowed help for farmers in the municipality.

At least seven barangays remain flooded with an estimated damage of over P3 million.

Sabdao said that they will coordinate with concerned agencies for assistance and help affected fisherfolk.

Classes remain suspended in Samar and other parts of Leyte, including Tanauan, Carigara, Alangalang, and San Miguel as a result of inclement weather.
