In a statement on Monday, March 17, the BuCor said the transfer "was part of the continued decongestion plan of the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City and it’s ultimate closure by 2028.”

It said the 500 PDLs left the NBP at 2:45 p.m. last Sunday, March 16, and were escorted by 141 BuCor personnel led by Chief Inspector Henry Avila.

“The transfer involved 56 PDLs coming from the Maximum Security Camp and 444 from the Medium Security Camp of the NBP,” it noted.

The BuCor disclosed that more Bilibid PDLs are set to be transferred to other prison facilities this April

To be transferred are "300 PDLs to Palawan Prison and Penal Farm, 400 to Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm in Occidental Mindoro, and another 300 to Davao Prison and Penal Farm,” it added.

“This systematic redistribution is aimed at alleviating the burden on NBP while ensuring that humane treatment and rehabilitation programs continue for all inmates,” it also said.
