A total of 103 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the Leyte Regional Prison (LRP) are vying to complete their basic education which they can use to pursue further schooling and apply for jobs after their release, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said.
In a statement, the BuCor said the PDLs took last Feb. 2 the Accreditation and Equivalency (A&E) test at the LRP.
It said "the A&E assessment provides PDL learners with an opportunity to obtain certification of completion in basic education."
Those who participated in the examinations were elementary and high school students detained at the medium and maximum security camp of the LRP, it also said.
“The assessment was administered by the Department of Education (DepEd) through its Bureau of Education Assessment (BEA), with assistance from the Schools Division of Leyte Testing Personnel,” it noted.
“The examination was headed by Menche L. Edloy, PhD, chief examiner of the Testing Center, and supervised and monitored by Dr. Gerardo L. Adtoon, education supervisor of DepEd Region VIII,” it added.
