The driver of the ill-fated truck in Cabagan, Isabela surrendered to the police on Friday morning, Feb. 28, hours after the Cabagan-Santa Maria Bridge collapsed on Thursday night, Feb. 27.

Police Major Merwin Villanueva, Cabagan police chief, said the driver is a resident of Tabuk City, Kalinga.
The driver said that a security guard allowed him to cross the bridge. Another truck was allowed to cross the bridge before them, the driver said.
Police will investigate why the security guard allowed the ill-fated truck to cross. Only light vehicles can use the bridge.
The truck was on its way to Isabela to deliver large stones from Kalinga when the bridge incident happened. The driver’s assistant is yet to appear before authorities.
