A motorcycle rider is now facing multiple charges after counterflowing on the EDSA busway to escape enforcers of the Department of Transportation-Special Action and Intelligence Committee for Transportation (DOTr-SAICT) for his unauthorized use of the busway on Thursday, Feb. 13.

According to DOTr-SAICT, the rider was spotted using the busway along Santolan Flyover at around 5 p.m.

Upon seeing the enforcers, the rider suddenly swerved out against the flow of traffic, endangering a bus passing through the busway and several other vehicles before being caught by the authorities who chased him on foot.

The rider explained that he tried to escape from the authorities as the P5,000 penalty for the unauthorized use of the busway was too much for him.

He added he was already caught using the busway illegally in December last year and paid the fine but that didn't stop him from repeating the offense.

The rider was penalized for the unauthorized use of the busway and for reckless driving.

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has yet to comment if it will suspend or revoke the driver's license of the rider.

On Feb. 7, a lady enforcer of the DOTr-SAICT was injured after a motorcycle rider hit her while trying to escape from the authorities for his unauthorized use of the busway along Ortigas Avenue in Pasig.

Multiple chargers were filed against him, including Resistance and Disobedience to an Agent of Authority (Art. 151, RPC), Direct Assault (Art. 148, RPC), Abandonment of One’s Own Victim (Art. 275, RPC), Reckless Driving (Sec. 48, RA 4136), and slight physical injuries.
