Moderate to heavy rainfall due to shear line caused floodings in Palawan and Occidental Mindoro which already affected more than 44,000 individuals, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported Tuesday, Feb. 11.
The NDRRMC said 13,067 families composed of 44,058 individuals from 10 cities and municipalities in Palawan and Occidental Mindoro were affected by the floodings.
The affected areas were Aborlan, Brooke’s Point, Narra, Sofronio Española, and Puerto Princesa City in Palawan; and Baco, Calapan, Naujan, Socorro, and Victoria in Occidental Mindoro.
Around 7,800 individuals were evacuated from their homes and sent to 49 evacuation centers.
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said it also rescued 108 individuals from seven villages swamped in Puerto Princesa City.
The PCG said the rescued individuals were from Barangay San Manuel, San Pedro, Bancao-Bancao, San Jose, Sicsican, Irawan, and Wescom Road.
“[The] rescued individuals were all in good physical condition and were brought to the respective evacuation areas of their barangay,” the PCG said.
Palawan has been experiencing rains due to the effect of shear line, or the convergence of cold and warm winds which trigger rains, since Feb. 9.
