2 Filipinas with 'fake' travel docs barred from leaving PH
Two Filipinas with fake travel documents were stopped from leaving the country, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said on Monday, Feb. 10.
The BI said one of the women presented a certificate from the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) which was found to be unregistered.
The other woman presented an overseas employment certificate (OEC) which was registered under a different name, it also said.
BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said the OEC is a document required by the CFO for first time overseas Filipino worker.
Viado said the detection of fake or fraudulently issued certificates is made possible due to the system integration between the bureau and the CFO and the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).
“This underscores the effectiveness of the interoperability, making it significantly harder for illegal workers and human trafficking victims to go undetected,” Viado stressed.
