BuCor gets 4,400 firearms for prison facilities nationwide
The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) has received over 4,400 firearms from the Department of Justice (DOJ) to build up its armory for security in its prison facilities nationwide.
In a statement, the BuCor said the firearms were turned over by DOJ Acting Secretary Fredderick A. Vida during a ceremony held last Dec. 15.
BuCor did not specify the kinds and calibers of the firearms.
The firearms were received by BuCor officials led by Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr. and C/SInsp. Antonio Rodulfo Jr., head of the bureau’s Firearms and Ordnance Division.
“The allocation of more than 4,400 firearms to Bucor strengthens our ability to secure the facilities and more importantly enhances the capability and readiness of our correctional personnel…,” Catapang said.
He also said the buildup of the bureau’s armory was intended to support personnel in maintaining peace and order, ensuring the safety of Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) and personnel, and improving the capacity to respond to security concerns.
He added that the donation also shows “the DOJ’s commitment to inter-agency cooperation and its ongoing efforts to reform the country’s correction and justice system.”
