Immigration officers manning int'l airports barred from taking leaves of absence this Christmas season
Immigration officers assigned to the country’s international airports have been barred from taking leaves of absence this Christmas season, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said on Tuesday, Dec. 23.
During an interview on PTV’s Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon, BI Deputy Spokesperson Malvin Mabulac said: “We do not allow ‘yung leave ng ating mga tauhan mula Nov. 15 hanggang Jan 15 (we do not allow leaves for our personnel from Nov. 15 to Jan. 15).”
He said the BI has 957 primary inspectors and 132 secondary inspectors nationwide to work round-the-clock this Christmas season, the country’s peak season for arriving and departing passengers.
“Nakita po natin almost every day umaabot po around 50,000 po ‘yung arrival at 50,000 din po ‘yung departure (This season we are already seeing daily passenger arrivals of 50,0000 and daily passenger departures of 50,000),” Mabulac he also said.
“Doon natin makikita medyo mataas-taas po s’ya compared sa last year (We can see that the numbers are higher compared to the same period last year),” he added.
