NBI conducts search of Baguio City hotel room where Cabral stayed before her death
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has conducted a search of the Baguio City hotel room where the late former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) undersecretary Maria Catalina “Cathy” E. Cabral stayed before her death last Dec. 19.
In a statement issued on Sunday morning, Dec. 21, the NBI said its operatives served a search warrant “to obtain evidence that may shed light on the circumstances surrounding her death.”
It said the search warrant was issued by Judge Michael V. Francisco of the Regional Trial Court of Baguio City, Branch 6.
The NBI did not disclose if pieces of evidence were found inside the hotel room.
Cabral was reported to have fallen from a cliff along Kennon Road in Tuba, Benguet on Thursday, Dec. 18. She was pronounced dead early morning on Friday, Dec. 19.
An autopsy has been conducted by authorities and found that blunt traumatic injury consistent with a fall was the cause of Cabral’s death.
The NBI said it has appealed to motorists who passed by the area from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Dec. 18 to share their dashcam footage to the bureau.
“Any information provided will be treated with strict confidentiality and used solely for lawful investigative purposes,” it assured.
