MOVIEGOER: Angelica, Zanjoe beyond their comfort zones
By some twist of fate, lead actors Angelica Panganiban and Zanjoe Marudo of the MMFF film, ‘Unmarry,’ are thrust beyond their comfort zones in the film produced by Quantum.

The offer came to them at a time when both of them are quite happily married. ‘Unmarry,’ as the title suggests, talks about dissolution of marriage or more famously known these days as annulment.
While doing the film, could it have been possible that certain thoughts parallel to what their characters in the film were going through flashed in their minds? What if?
Angelica and Zanjoe, being both professional actors, confessed they swam right into character as soon as they read the full script, written by Chris Martinez. They left their ‘happily married’ persona at home where they belonged.
Angelica is currently based in Subic, Zambales with her husband and child. The film marks her comeback following 2021’s
“Love or Money,” opposite Coco Martin. She said she found the script charming in its simplicity.
In a Dec. 5 mediacon, Zanjoe corrected rumors that his marriage to Ria Atayde is breaking apart. “They’re probably thinking of my role in Unmarry,” he said.
In the film directed by Jeffrey Jeturian, Angelica and Zanjoe play people who are unhappy in their marriages. Angelica said she found a whiff of fresh air when she learned that she and Zanjoe were not playing husband and wife here, for a change. They have acted together in several TV projects essaying married couples.
While the film tackles the hazards, the pain, the trauma, and the drama, not to mention the high cost of filing an annulment in the Philippines, where divorce isn’t in place (at least, not yet), Jeturian said ‘Unmarry’ doesn’t undermine the value of marriage.
Co-actor Tom Rodriguez, who plays Angelica’s husband, agreed wholeheartedly. He said he has remarried following a controversial separation from Carla Abellana, his first wife.
Rodriguez said that he was lucky that being an American citizen, he could easily get a divorce in the United States. His second marriage has blessed him with a child.
Angelica gave birth to her first child with husband Gregg Homan in 2022. The couple married in 2023 in Los Angeles, California.
Prior to this screen comeback, Angelica acted in a stage play, “Don’t Meow For Me, Catriona” at the CCP’s Virgin Labfest.
Unmarry also stars Eugene Domingo, Solenn Heussaff, Nico Antonio, Donna Cariaga, Johnny Revilla, and Shamaine Buencamino, among others.
Speaking of Eugene Domingo, why has she slid back to supporting roles in her new assignments?
