BACOLOD CITY – A 45-year-old policeman killed by the New People’s Army (NPA) in Calatrava town, Negros Occidental province was laid to rest in his hometown of Toboso, Negros Occidental on Saturday, Dec. 13.
Personnel of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office rendered a solemn 21-gun salute in honor of Police Senior Master Sgt. Rommel Aguilar, a member of the 1st Negros Occidental Provincial Mobile Force Company.
The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) paid tribute to Aguilar’s dedication. They said his legacy of commitment, honor, and service would continue to inspire the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the nation.
Family, friends, and colleagues honored Aguilar’s years of selfless service, courage, and sacrifice.
The PRO-NIR described Aguilar as a dedicated public servant, a loyal colleague, and a true hero in uniform.
Police Col. Dennis Wenceslao, Negros Occidental police director, and Police Col. Lito Patay, PRO-NIR deputy regional director for operations, attended the necrological service to express solidarity with Aguilar’s family.
Aguilar was found dead in Barangay Laga-an, Calatrava, hours after he was reported missing on Dec. 7.
He had been involved in a brief firefight with unidentified armed men in Barangay Menchaca while conducting a police operation against a wanted individual.
Earlier that day, a 59-year-old civilian, who NPA rebels tagged as an alleged military asset, was also shot dead in Barangay Dolis, Calatrava.
Authorities continue to investigate the two incidents and operations are ongoing to identify and arrest the perpetrators and bring justice to the victims.
