Dismissed Bamban, Tarlac mayor Alice L. Guo, who was sentenced to life imprisonment for qualified human trafficking, has “no special treatment” at the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City.
In a statement, the BuCor said that “Guo, along with all inmates, is subject to the same regulations and restrictions, with no special privileges afforded to her or any other persons deprived of liberty.”
Guo had been transferred to the CIW from the Pasig City jail after her conviction last Nov. 20 for qualified human trafficking.
Aside from Guo, also transferred to the CIW last Dec. 5 were Jaimielyn Santos Cruz and Rachelle Joan Malonzo Carreon.
They and five other accused -- Walter Wong Rong, Wang Weili, Wuli Dong, Nong Ding Chang, and Lang Xu Po – were sentenced to life imprisonment and ordered to pay a fine of P2 million in a decision handed down by Pasig City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Judge Annilyn Medes-Cebelis.
The BuCor issued the statement in response to reports that claimed that Guo was visited by Chinese-looking men and may have received a mobile phone.
CIW Chief Supt. Marjorie Ann Sanidad reported to the BuCor that “only her lawyers or legal counsels have been permitted to visit her, in accordance with established health and security protocols.”
The BuCor said that from Dec. 6 to 9, lawyer Nicole D. Jamilla visited Guo and was accompanied by lawyer Romar Cambri on Dec. 8; and on Dec. 10, lawyers Marc Lester Mamuri and Cheska Mhey Dela Paz were Guo’s visitors.
“Personal cell phones are strictly prohibited in all prison facilities belying reports that Guo may have obtained a personal cellphone days after her detention,” it also said.
