More electronic gates or e-gates will be installed in a few days at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said on Tuesday, Dec. 9.
BI Spokesperson Dana Sandoval said the installation will be in time for the Christmas season when about 55,000 passenger arrivals are expected in various ports and airports, particularly at NAIA.
The first e-gates were installed in 2019. They are unmanned gates that process traveling passengers and replace the immigration booths manned by BI officers.
BI Deputy Spokesperson Melvin Mabulac said there are a total of 22 e-gates installed at the arrival areas of NAIA Terminal 1 and Terminal 3.
Mabulac said that new e-gates which will be installed have already undergone a dry run to make sure that they will function properly.
He expressed the BI’s gratitude to the New NAIA Infra Corporation for assistance in purchasing the new e-gates.
